Bringing a scene to life
I will probably not log every creation of every level I make but I thought it would be interesting to see one scene come alive.
For me at least, it was really fascinating to push the design just a litte bit more to get better and better results.
The Pencil Shrine
One of the first scenes I planned was a shrine where the knight gets to pick up his holy pencil sword.
This is how I began.
Basic structures and the pencil sword in the middle. Not really interesting to look at.
I wanted some lore visualized in the scene so I thought about the past and how all the pencils broke but only this one ramained intact.
Would be kind of boring if the pencil sword just stood there. Why not make it mysterious and it falls from the sky. I think it looks neat.
Black and brown looks kind of boring. This is supposed to be an ancient place, so overgrown plants are a no brainer.
It still felt a bit empty. In this universe people fight with pencil swords so why not make them worship writing utensils. Fills the room and it is the right amount of derpy looking.
At this point it still felt dead. Nothing moved and it was missing a punch. I animated the grass, added godrays to give the "Holy" feeling, added small wind effects and created some little spiders creeping around.
Feels way more vibrant.
This is one of my first scenes. I really hope to get better at making levels and bringing them to life.
