Origin and Inspiration
Redrawn
I was once thinking about some cool ideas for games I could make in my free time, when I'm not studying and so on. On of the ideas I thought was interesting was a hand-drawn game where you can actually draw collision yourself while playing a small stick figure. Your goal is to complete little puzzles, draw the path for your little sitck figure friend and let him reach the goal.
And thus I decided to make redrawn.
The style just suited myself because it was supposed to be drawn as if a highschool boy was doodling while being bored. It was not supposed to be flawless. The sprites were easy to produce so I could focus on programming while the game still contains some charm.
This is where the main mechanic comes in, drawing. You can use this to traverse the levels or solve puzzles.
And so on... I was really content with this game and had a lot of fun, until...
Inspiration hits like a truck
Later I was working on some enemies for redrawn and this little bugger came along.
I had so much fun doing sprite animations for enemies that it inspired me to make something else. Something with more animations, something new that I didn't have much experience in and challanged me.
And with this I started working on Pencil Knight.
Pencil Knight
